Lu Jinhai: “Father, I have hired one of the best event management companies for this. With only three days to spare, all the invitations have been sent out. Assistant Xiao Dong will handle the remaining things as I have already instructed him.”
Elder Lu: “So you have already planned everything, then what was the point in asking my opinion? Made me drain my energy, you punk!”
Lu Jinhai: “Hmmm…that….umm”. Lu Jinhai knew his father very well. He liked that his father bickered as if contributed to the playful atmosphere of the family. That was why he had done it on purpose.
To change the topic, Zhao Shuang looked at her elder son and asked, “Where is Lu Qiang? I am missing my dear grandson. When will he come back?” As she mentioned Lu Qiang’s name, the atmosphere got back to normal, and everyone started to ask after him.
Ning Jiahui: “Mother, he is in America regarding some important company-related matter. He will leave New York tomorrow evening and will come back by next morning.”
Zhao Shuang: “Oh, that child. Ever since he took on the responsibility of the Lu Corporation on his shoulder, he has never disappointed us. In all these years, he has worked hard without rest to take the business ahead.”
Lu Qiang was Lu Jinhai’s elder son. Five years ago, when Lu Jinhai was involved in an accident and was in a severe condition, Lu Qiang was only eighteen years old. He took all the responsibility of the company and family in his hand and worked hard to cross the boundaries of success. He sacrificed his dream to become a soccer player for this. He knew how hard his father had worked to help everyone spend their lives in comfort.
Elder Lu: “That’s what I am worried about.” He looked at Lu Jinhai and said, “You are a heartless man. How can you make your son work like a bull? I am afraid that it will affect his health and vitality. What will happen to my dream of having great-grandchildren, you irresponsible brat?”
Lu Jinhai had a ghost of a smile on his face. “Father, I am responsible. That’s why I was able to give you two grandsons and one granddaughter.”
Elder Lu frowned. “What’s so great about that? Everyone does that. You just handle your Lu Corporation and give my grandson a little rest.” He continued to mumble in a low voice, “Useless Chairman of the Lu Corporation!” But everyone heard it.
Lu Jinhai was the chairman of Lu Corporation, one of the richest and influential organizations in the country. It was the result of thirty years of hard work. He started it from scratch.
The Lu family was from a small town, far away from the capital. Lu Jinhai’s ancestors looked after that town and small villages around them from generations as head of the town. Every generation contributed to the development and the well being of the families there. That’s why everyone respected the Lu clan.
Lu Jinhai’s dreams to do something extraordinary in life brought the whole family to the city. Initially, he started his business with traditional Chinese arts and crafts made in his town. It was a specialty of the area around that town. Lu Jinhai realized its importance and established a small company. It was not that difficult for him initially as his family was well off and his grandfather was head of the town.
The tricky part was when he moved to the capital. He had to face difficulties like mischievous people and competitors. Though he was from town, he was fast to distinguish between friends and foes. He knew how to handle those people because he had a cunning side, too. If he were to check his IQ at that time, it definitely would be in three digits.
Soon, he got success. In a few years, he started to expand his business in different sectors. He married his childhood friend and distant cousin, Ning Jiahui. She supported him through thick and thin in his journey to fulfill his dreams. She was a loving and caring woman loved by her in-laws.
After four years of marriage, Ning Jiahui gave birth to their first child Lu Qiang followed by one daughter Lu Lian and younger son Lu Lijun. After their marriage, Lu Jinhai was very busy with business. He knew that he would not be able to give his family the proper time. He didn’t want to divert his focus as he was just getting successful. So, Lu Jinhai and Ning Jiahui decided not to have a child for a few years. It was the reason for Lu Qiang’s late arrival.
Hearing the word ‘great-grandchildren’, something clicked in Su Hui’s mind. She was the wife of Elder Lu Huan’s second son, Lu Chen.
“Exactly, father. As an aunt, I am worried about Lu Qiang, too. He should take some rest and look after his health. His two cousins are there to share his responsibilities in the company. Father, don’t worry about great-grandchildren. Other than Lu Qiang, you have two more grandsons who can grant your wish,” Su Hui said with a big smile on her face.
Elder Lu looked at her with an annoyed expression. “Two more grandsons? Are you talking about your sons? The one who got married five years ago because of an adrenaline rush in his body, still don’t want to have a child, and the other one who is always busy in his world, drinking alcohol and taking drugs, roaming around with his useless friends and spending the hard-earned money of this family?” His face turned red with anger as he showed how displeased he was with Su Hui’s sons.
Hearing these harsh words, Su Hui’s face fell, and the atmosphere in the living room became silent. Nobody dared to utter a single word.
Elder Lu’s younger son, Lu Chen, was a polite person. He was an obedient son and brother, but his wife was quite mischievous. They had two sons, Lu Han and Lu Feng. Their daughter, Lu Bao was the youngest. Initially, they lived in their ancestral town where Lu Chen was supporting his brother by handling business. A few years ago they moved the whole family to the city as Lu Huan missed his younger son and grandchildren.
